David Hancock is a photographic professional with over 30 yrs experience in media photography. He has worked on Newspapers in New Zealand and Australia including NZ Herald, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald. Also during that early period of his career he undertook assignments for the Australian Women’s Weekly and The Bulletin as well as publicity for TCN9 in Sydney.

For the past 25 he has worked as a freelance photographer. The majority of this work has been with corporate clients and major international clients such as Hello Magazine in the UK, the London Daily Telegraph and the news agency Agence France Presse. This work has given him an in depth understanding of the workings of the International and Australian media. The coverage of news and sporting events for AFP has meant he has been at the “cutting edge” in the introduction of digital imaging.

He has supplied photographic illustration for a number of Australian books including Raising Boys, Boys in Schools, Girls in Schools and Steve Biddulph’s best-selling Manhood, which has been printed around the world.

In 1993 he completed a six-month photographic study of people from the street in manly. The resulting exhibition was held at the Manly Art Gallery in the same year. In addition one of the photographs from this exhibition was later selected by renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt to appear in one of the M.I.L.K books that were published worldwide in 2001.
From late 1999 David worked on an Australia Council project with artist Warren Langley entitled Lightandlandscape. This involved the exploration of remote source light installations and their dialogue in both urban Sydney and the Central Desert with aspects of the natural order and resulted in exhibition from 2005.
In 2003 the work “Pendulum Family” was selected as one of six Finalists in the Inaugural Energex Arbour Art Prize in Brisbane.
In 2005 the work “Rose & Lance” an image shot for NAIDOC week was selected for display in the “Sydney Life” exhibition in Hyde Park Sydney.
In 2008 he published his photographic tribute to Manly-Seven Miles from Sydney A thousand Miles from Care.
In 2011 he published WildByron...a journey into the psyche of Byron and it's people. David now lives in Eltham New Zealand.
